THIS WEEK AT NITCENTRAL

Sunday, February 8, 1998

Finished the first read-through on That Fated Shore! I will be doing some research on a possible Star Wars guide this week (and hopefully polishing That Fated Shore a bit more.)

Michael Apple wrote yesterday with a fun tidbit: I was watching Entertainment Tonight this evening and they did a segment on the new Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas. What was hilarious, though, was that the host kept using a tricorder as a communicator. Whenever he jokingly said a message to "the Enterprise", he'd flip the panel open on the tricorder, while he held it upside down. It really made me laugh.

Ah, those wild and crazy actors! They are such kidders! ;-)

And Murray Leeder sent this tidbit of news: A magazine called Verge (which I'd never heard of before today) had an article on X-Files fandom in its April 1998 issue (which is out all ready, don't ask me why). It devotes a paragraph to the X-Philes Guide and calls it the best episode guide available: "needlessly obsessive, but with a certain panache".

All publicity is good publicity!

Yesterday, I finally had the opportunity to watch "Who Mourns For Morn." I wasn't greatly impressed but that's only because I had my own Morn story that I wanted to pitch to Paramount (if they would ever call me back like they said they were going to! ;-) Ah well . . . maybe just for the fun of it--when I get some extra time--I'll write up a synopsis and toss it up to the site (but not for very long, you understand, I wouldn't want the Paramounties to ride into Nitpicker Central!)

A final note: I also saw the preview for this week's DS9 episode on Saturday. Sisko somehow is transported back to mid-twentieth century Earth and must face the horrors of racism. I could help but ponder the following.

When Classic Trek wanted to deal during current day problems, it set them in the future and used analogy to very interesting effect. This has traditionally been the power of science-fiction. When DS9 wants to take on current day problems, it seems to rely on putting the characters in a present day conflict so they can stomp around and tell us how stupid we are. (Remember "Past Tense" Part 1 and 2?) Hmmmm.

No uploads planned. All the Voyager files are frozen (Last week, I updated the Nitpickers Guild Membership List and the Current Guild Statistics.)

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: The Brash Reflections for the third season of Voyager are officially frozen. However, you may feel free to send in additional nits for the episodes. I will keep the information for future reference and possible inclusion in a Voyager Nitpicker's Guide. Also frozen are Trials and Tribble-ations, along with all movie files. Also, aside from "Trials and Tribble-ations"--which was a special case, there aren't any Brash Reflections for DS9 on the website. Sorry. Just don't have the time to do another series and I started with Voyager when I started the homepage.
