THIS WEEK AT NITCENTRAL

Sunday, April 12, 1998

Made good progress on reading the Star Wars novels and writing plots summaries. Got through five of them! Hope to get through the next five this week (Truce at Bakura through X-Wing #4)!

Also, I mentioned this in my Ask the Chief column but I thought I do so as well here! I was contacted last week by Robert Pearlman of the National Space Society. They have created, in cooperation with HBO, created the Official Viewer's Guide to "From The Earth To The Moon" (E2M) [http://www.nss.org/apollo] -- the new epic miniseries covering America's quest for the Moon.

Anyway, Robert was interested in creating a Nitpicker's Guide for the series as well! Now, he has access to astronauts, NASA techs, and historians but was also interested in hearing from you all as to your thoughts on the HBO mini series that is currently playing. So, I'm going to be starting some Brash Reflections files on the series and then forwarding all the stuff to Robert and he's going to be double-checking everything and *eventually* we'll be putting together an online version and *possibly*--although nothing, nothing, nothing has been set yet--putting together something in hardcopy LATER (much later, because my schedule is nuts right now).

And this came in from Shirley Kolb. Thought you all might enjoy it!

"On a light note, my husband Jerry & I were trying to figure out what message they were trying to get across in last week's DS9 which had the long weird title and was about Kira's mother & Gul Dukat. We thought of the following:

"1) Kira needed more disillusionment. After all, she was smiling broadly for the first time in years at the beginning of the episode.

"2) Conquerors always abuse the female conquorees. (?)

"3) Bad people are sometimes nice (although maybe for selfish reasons) and good people sometimes do bad things (but maybe for what they think are noble reasons.)

"4) Sisko should be careful who he lets go off on quests. He let Dax go awhile ago & she killed off a bunch of Klingons to fulfil a vow Curzon made (even though she is NOT Curzon!) Now he let Kira go and she came very close to blowing Gul Dukat & her Mom to pieces with who know what untold ramifications for the future.

"5) Finally, my husband came up with the true message of the episode, which is: Kira needs call screening so that when a lunatic Cardassian calls her up, she will know who it is so she doesn't have to take the call!"

Uploaded more nits and reflections for Vis A Vis.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: The Brash Reflections for the third season of Voyager are officially frozen. However, you may feel free to send in additional nits for the episodes. I will keep the information for future reference and possible inclusion in a Voyager Nitpicker's Guide. Also frozen are Trials and Tribble-ations, along with all movie files. Also, aside from "Trials and Tribble-ations"--which was a special case, there aren't any Brash Reflections for DS9 on the website. Sorry. Just don't have the time to do another series and I started with Voyager when I started the homepage.

Rats! My timer evidentally wasn't set correctly so I didn't get the show. I'll catch it on Saturday. Meanwhile, I started a Brash Reflection for The Omega Particle with comments from other nitpickers.
