SCOTT V.'S STAR TREK: VOYAGER STATISTICS

(Note from Phil: Star Trek: Voyager is unique in the Trek universe in that it is supposed to be completely isolated from Starfleet and the Federation. On Classic Trek or NextGen or DS9 if a new crewmember appears or the phasers change, it's no big deal because a ship probably arrived when we weren't looking. Early on, however, nitpickers realized that Star Trek: Voyager would provide some interesting nitpicking possibilities. And, the creators realize that as well! Janet Nemecek, the assistant script coordinator for Voyager once told me that she's is counting named crewmembers and photon torpedoes used. I've heard from several nitpickers that they are doing the same but Scott V. was the first to send me his lists. I thought I'd start a file that we can add to as we go along. Of course, I will double check all this information during the compilation of the Voyager Guide but for now I'll assume that it's correct until I hear different! ;-)

Torpedoes:

In "The Cloud" they claimed to have 38 torpedoes. They used one in this episode, leaving 37.

In "Alliances" they used three more, leaving 34.

"Dreadnought"- At least seven (shown), leaving 27 (at most)

"Resolutions"- At least three, leaving 24.

"Basics Part 1"- Three shown to be fired, then Janeway says "Fire. Dispersal pattern: Sierra." There were no graphics for this, but in "Yesterday's Enterprise", the Alternate Picard orders the same thing and we see either one torpedo turning into five little ones, or five leaving together and separating. But this is an alternate Starfleet. So does anyone remember another episode with this order? Anyway, they fired either four or eight torpedoes in this episode (you decide for yourself), leaving 20 or 16 left (depending on your point of view).

"Future's End, Part Two"- One fired, leaving 19 or 15.

"Rise"- At least one, leaving 18 or 14. But knowing the creators, I'm going for the higher number.

Shuttles:

"Initiations"- Chakotay's shuttle gone.

"Partuition"- Shuttle lost.

"Non-Sequitur"- Shuttle broke up. Named the Drake, I believe.

"Unity"- Shuttle stripped on ex-Borg planet. Used 2 extra to search. So they started out with at least 6 shuttles.

"Rise"- But here they send out three to search. So they started out with at least seven shuttles, four of which are gone. I believe all other downed shuttles I have not mentioned were able to be salvaged.

Number of people on Voyager:

In "The 37's" Janeway claims there are 152 people aboard.

"Alliances"- Kurt Bendera, dead. Leaves 151.

"Meld"- Darwin dead (150)

"Deathwish"- "Q"uinn officially joins roster, then commits suicide (150)

"Investigations"- Michael Jonas, dead (149).

"Deadlock"- Baby Wildman born (150).

"Innocence"- Bennett, dead (149).

"Basics, Part 2"- Hogan and the guy in blue in the cave, both worm-food. Suder killed as well (146).

"Warlord"- Ensign Martin in transporter room, dead (145).

"Unity"- Ensign Kaplan, dead (144).

Now, I am not counting the security guard outside the Kazon's quarters in "Basics, Part 1" even though he should have been krispy-fried when that Kazon blew himself up. And even if he managed to survive, could he have been helped when the Kazon left everyone on that planet? Also, no one was killed as the Kazon boarded Voyager? Yet, no one but Suder is unaccounted for on the surface. I would count the security guy, but in two episodes towards the end of the season ("Displaced" and "Distant Origin") it is stated that there are 148 people on Voyager, not 144. So, where did the extra 4 come from? Maybe some of the humans from "The 37's" decided they wanted to see Earth?

Now these are "official" sightings. I once believed the old "Crewman=Maquis" deal, but that has been contradicted in a few episodes. So I look to the collar for confirmation. Also, the guy in blue from "Basics, Part 2" was unnamed, so he may or may not be on this list. Plus, I only count names given in the actual episodes. For example, the little female ensign left on the bridge with Chuckles in "Displaced" is not called by name in the episode. But in the credits there is an Ensign Lang. Is it her? Only time will tell.

Back to my 148 vs. 144 crewman: Does Holo-doc register as a life-form? He could have been counted in "Distant Origin" and "Displaced".

Now, let's talk about Tuvok's probabilities. In "Caretaker", helmsman Stadi tells Paris the compliment of Voyager is 141. Add Tom and 142 people went to look for the Maquis. How many die in "Caretaker"? At least five for sure: Cavitt (1st Officer), Stadi, the chief engineer, the CMO, and his Vulcan nurse. In "Parallax" Janeway says they need a new transporter chief and astrogation officer, so I assume they also died in "Caretaker". So that's at least 7 dead SF officers. 142-7=135. So, at most, there's 135 SF (counting Tom). Before "The 37's" we lost one SF guy (Durst), leaving 134. In "The 37's" Janeway claims a crew of 152 people. 152-134=18. Subtract Neelix and Kes, you have 16 left. Meaning 16 are Maquis. Add one because Seska left before "The 37's". So there were 17 Maquis who were on Voyager. In "Worst Case Scenario", Holo-Chakotay claims to have turned about 25 SF to his mutiny. Meaning after the rebellion there's about 42 people to run the ship. But in "The 37's" Chuckles claims Voyager needs a crew of at least 100 to operate the ship. I guess Tuvok thought Chakotay could get enough defectors, huh? But it is only a training exercise.

Really, there could be more Maquis. Out of 17, I've identified 14. So there are only three more Maquis to identify by name. Meaning for every identified Maquis OVER 17, that means a SF officer has been lost. Presumably in "Caretaker".

Also, I've identified 26 of the 73 eligible males on Voyager.
