Yikes!! It's been two months since I updated this file. My apologies. Things have been really busy around here. I'm still going consulting work and am about to vote myself a raise since I am charging way too little considering my skill set. ;-) Anyway, just put a big catalog online for a client at www.gospelpublishing.com
Worked with a good designer who created all the screens but the code that drives it is mine.
And, on a lark, a few weeks back, I submitted an application for Survivor II: The Australian Outback. Not that I'm going to make it on the show or even make the first cut. The reports say that they had 60,000 applications! That's a hard number. Even to make the first cut to 800, you would have to be in the top 1.25%. Not an easy thing to be. That's up at the level where applicants are doing triathalons and I ain't no triathalon guy!!! ;-) Oh well, it was fun at least to make the attempt.
I did have an odd-ball experience yesterday with the whole Survivor application thing. The phone rang. I picked it up with my standard greeting . . .
"Hello!"
"Is this Phil?" A congenial voice asked on the other end of the line.
"That's me!" I answer.
"This is [name withheld] from CBS Radio," the voice began to explain.
Now, at this point, I'm thinking "CBS Radio . . . equals . . . CBS . . . equals . . . Survivor!!!!! Ding, ding, ding, ding!" And they *only* reason the folks at Survivor would be calling me would be to tell me that I made the first cut!!!
Except . . . that wasn't the reason for call.
Turns out the guy had a copy of the Nitpicker's Guide for Classic Trekkers and he needed the phone number for the Sci-Fi Channel and he had looked everywhere and couldn't find it and someone had the idea that since I was a trivia guy maybe I would know and so he called me!
So, I'm back to being convinced that Survivor isn't going to call me because 1.25% is a very hard number. And even if I would make the cut to the 800 . . . to make the cut to the actual sixteen, you would have to be in the top 2% of the top 1.25%!!!! And, that's just about impossible!
But, like I said, it was fun to put together the video tape for the application.
